Keeping your garden clean
Keeping your garden up to date and free of weeds is one of the most important things you can do, why? Weeds rob your garden of much needed water, and nutrients, and while it may seem like a few weeds may not be that big a deal it really is because they grow so fast that one day to the next you will find that they will literally take over.
One of the most important parts of gardening is to keep your garden free from weeds and pests.
Weeds seem to just thrive in a garden even when you keep at it, they just seem to popup over night.
Which is one of the reasons why it is so important to keep vigilant on keeping your garden weed free.
Tool of the trade, there are a number of garden tools that come in handy for keeping your garden weed free.
One of the most often used is the hoe, which you can buy at just about any hardware or garden store.
A hoe is very useful for getting that pesky grass and weeds from around your precious plants.
Another useful implement, is a small hand held garden excavation tool, which can be very helpful
in keeping the grass down.
weeds and grass can rob your garden of water and nutrients that you really need in order to keep that lush
growing cycle going.
Time to spray the fruit trees
Well it is that time of year again and it comes all too fast, more so if you live in any of the southerly states, this last season, there was a lot more rain than usual, in fact it caused quite a few farmers to loose the entire fruit crop, to fungus, because it rained almost twice as many inches which is very unusual.
So in order to fight fungus you need to spray while the tree is still in its dormant stage, which is about right now.
There are many different fungicide sprays you can use but more importantly is the use of a good sprayer that can change depending on the application, Rittenhouse is one company that does provide a great product.
You should follow the directions on the product you choose, which can vary but usually is around 14 days between applications, then you want to spray again at first bloom then again just prior to pedal drop.
The important thing is that you take care of the problem before it gets a chance to set in too badly.
Have you Trimmed your fruit trees?
Well it is that time of year again, in fact you may find that you should have already pruned your trees already. Getting ready to make your trees bloom for this next years season, is serious business, and it can mean the difference between, a great crop and loosing your entire crop.
Is there really a problem with the earths magnetic shield
Well some say there is and some say that is not true, but for sure no one knows the exact truth, however it does appear that nasa may have some data that does support that a problem does exist, though they do not go as far as saying that it is the end of the world.
But if it were would you be able to provide for your family, would you have the knowledge? The supplies?

Outdoor gardening season year in retrospect, virus, fungus,
As we approach the end of the season for outdoor gardening, there are still some crops to be harvested and still some veggies to put up or can if that is the way you like it, Tomatoes this year were plagued with a fungus that was very difficult to control even with all the fungicides available it still was very difficult to control.
More importantly was the very real possibility that rain water was the vector for this disease.
Without aggressive treatment for the soil and for the plant base this disease could become a serious problem in the future.
One method is to research the vector this however is problematic as the resources for such a project would reside with a major institution and not in the general purview of the public or casual farmer.
This indicates that it may be more important than you can imagine to be able to cultivate indoors.
Hydroponic cultivation may in fact become so important as to make the difference between life and death for some in the coming years more so if the environment and the eco system become unstable.
Just a word to the wise, read up on hydroponics and learn what you need to know to survive.
You can grow year round
Yes, you can, grow year round that is, using several methods of growing, you can use hydroponics, planters, and other inside growing techniques.
some scientists indicate that there could be pollution in rain water
this may not be a new story but recently there have been reports that a fungus has been more prevalent in rain water which is causing farmers serious problems.
Could this be the thing that makes hydroponics even more popular?
When its time to move your garden indoors
There will come a time when a garden will no longer be as productive outside as it could be inside. When this time comes it is usually in the fall of the year, when the weather begins to get cooler. However the time to consider when it is time to move is before the weather changes, right now we have, a few more weeks to consider what to do with the remaining growing season.
One thing you can do is to start growing some smaller plants in small pots, even better is if you want to start raising hydroponic, vegetables, like leaf lettuce.
The time to start this is 6 weeks before you get ready to move your garden inside, this way you can have produce year round and that is very cool indeed.
Getting started with hydroponics is not an easy or cheap thing, however, you can do more with less if you read a few books and that is one way you can get into hydroponics, the other way is to spend money…
The first thing you want to do when thinking about starting your own indoor hydroponics farm is to choose your location well.
You want a naturally warm climate inside, where you can have room to work and keep your plants well maintained.
Water those dry gardens to keep them growing can you keep it green?
Recently there has been little rain and many that have planted gardens have seen their gardens begin to wither away to nothing or they start to notice the yellow leaf patterns on their plants.
This is a sign that there is not enough water in the garden root system.
So how hot does it get in your garden?
If you do not have enough water your garden will quickly wither away.
It may be hard for some to make time to water and I can understand why someone might abandon their gardens, however, it really only takes a little time to water a garden, and if you heap dirt up around the base of a plant the water your plants do get will last longer in the root system.
If it gets too hot then you risk loosing your plants.
However I have seen something that defies logic, dry dead gardens, this is something that is hard to understand because you see them out there working in the garden preparing the soil, doing the work, planting, and growing their gardens, and as long as it rains, everything is fine but if it starts to get dry they stop taking care of the garden, keeping that garden growing is in your best interest.
I am not sure where the idea came that your garden just grows itself and you dont have to do anything in order to reap the benefits of the garden, in other words the produce of the garden, is only reaped when you put in a little effort.
So get out there and water the garden, and you will be happy that you did.
Growing a garden takes work and effort, but the rewards are so much better than you might imagine, more so when the price of produce starts to go
up and up and up…
For every hour you put into a garden you can get pounds of produce, so far this year we have about 200 pounds of produce and counting…
We have prepared that and frozen or canned what we could not use right away, I can tell you that during the winter, it is going to be really nice to
have fresh tasting produce, to enjoy…
