home gardening

The other day we saw one of those bobble heads on the news talk about how the home gardening movement was just a fad, I had to laugh because for one thing I doubt they ever lifted a finger to garden or probably even know what a shovel looks like, yet they are quick to talk about what they do not know about, that is typical of some people that depend on others for a living, in the old days, every one farmed or they starved…

Millions of People all over the world are discovering that they too can garden at home.

In fact it might someday come down to your families survival…

You can too, in fact with the high cost of fuel and the higher cost of produce, it is getting hard to afford the cost of food in the grocery stores, like during the great depression, people depended on growing to provide food for their families, that time may come again sooner than anyone ever thought.

Drip irrigation

The real Green in conservation is conserving water.

Developing a system of watering at the root level is nothing new however it is something that many cultivaters are seriously looking into now that we have what appears to be a change in our climate and a change in what has traditionally been a wet sring but less water means you need to make plans to take advantage of what you have.

In some areas it is really dry and when you tink about how much difference conserving water can make it can be serioiusly instructive.

Drip irrigation is said to require up to 70 percent less water, because you literally are watering under the plant rows. Like we have done in this photo, we can water from under neath the row, at the root level.

Developing your own irrigation system can save you a lot of water as well as creating additional produce. Trickle irrigation really does help the plants because so much of the disease that effect plants comes from leaf contact, using water irrigation not only saves water, which is a great thing when you in a hot dry climate, but it also creates great growth for plants.

Rain Water pollution?

Is rain water becoming polluted by airborne contaminates?

effects of pollution can cause a lot of problems and it may well be that we are seeing the beginning of some serious problems that we may face in the future if something is not done soon to reduce the emission of pollutants in the air.

The idea of this issue being a strong one is something that should be investigated soon simply because we could be in the process of wiping out hundreds of years of evolution in our forests by allowing too many contaminates in large cities.

The idea is not a new one and has been championed by many over the years, however largely this has been ignored by both the media and the main stream consumer.

However, looking at the rate of Deforestation, that we are beginning to see both due to natural causes and by harvesting trees, we could in the very near future be facing a serious issue with erosion such as happened in the dust bowl which some have argued occurred when too many trees were harvested and none were planted in its place.

In fact we can see this issue where we live, huge areas are being logged out and nothing is being done to plant new trees, this is not only disturbing but also dangerous.

So, are we looking at plant diseases caused by fallout from large cities in America?

Might we find that we are inviting the ruin of farm crops that sustain and support millions of people all over the world?

What if we found that we were polluting our way into a situation that might take years to over come?

Take in to account that fewer than three days of supplies are kept by most grocery stores and you have the ingredients of a huge disaster.

The idea that this could be a serious issue is one that some are studying, however it is not enough to just look at the problem we must find a solution because if this does not stop and stop soon, we could be looking at a famine, people would starve to death, yes, in America.

Pollution is a problem in large cities, and when strong winds blow through a city and can pick up dust and contaminates, and move them miles away, then you have the potential for mass pollution of the environment.

It is serious and it could cause massive loss of crops due to this pollution factor.
